ELLINGTON– State Representative Christopher Davis threw out the first pitch at the 2016 Annual Austin Tautkus and Troy Russell Wiffle Ball Tournament on Saturday.
“I was honored to throw out the first pitch today,” said Rep. Davis. “The Austin Tautkus legacy will never be forgotten, and Troy Russell’s tenacity to recover from his injuries is a true inspiration to the entire community.”
Austin Tautkus and Troy Russell were both standout student athletes at Ellington High School from the Class of 2013.
Tautkus- a close friend of Russell- went on to play football at Western Connecticut State University. After graduating in 2013, Tautkus was tragically killed in a work related accident at his family farm.
In 2012 Russell suffered a severe spinal cord injury, but continues his rehabilitation process every day in an effort to overcome his injuries.
The proceeds from the tournament fund a permanent scholarship in memory of Austin Tautkus. The Russell family also receives half of the proceeds raised in order to help them with the costs associated with Troy’s ongoing medical treatments.
The families are hoping to raise more than $5,000 this year. Click here to help the Tautkus and Russell families reach their goal.
